Writing is a solitary activity. Crafting words on the page can be a painstaking process, and one that requires a huge time and energy commitment. Anyone besides me sometimes wonder if all the effort matters?
Recently God encouraged me with this verse in Hebrews 4:13, “Nothing is hidden from God’s sight.” I know the passage references the fact that God knows our sin, but God used it to help me with three additional applications.
Our Writing is Not Hidden From His Sight
First, God reminded me that my writing efforts are not hidden from his sight. He sees my dedication and commitment. He created me with a passion for writing. He not only cares about me, but he also values me and formed me just the way he intended, with a love for writing included.
The morning I read this verse, I was dealing with a health issue that was bringing me down. God reminded me that my trials, struggles, and heartaches are not hidden from his sight. “In this world you will have trouble,” said Jesus, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) By refocusing my mind with God’s truth, it gave me hope to persevere.
Our Works Are Not Hidden From His Sight
Finally, as Christians, we are called to be a light. We know we are to do our acts of service to please God alone, but that doesn’t mean that wrong motives don’t sometimes creep in. When we don’t receive the pat on the back we desire, we can become bitter and weary. But the truth is that none of our acts of service escape God’s notice. They are not hidden from his sight, and he will reward us in his time. Galatians 6:9 “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Our Trials Are Not Hidden From His Sight
I don’t know what you are facing today, but I hope this snippet of Scripture speaks to you.
- Are you a writer that feels alone and discouraged in your efforts?
- Are you walking through a valley and need to remember that Jesus walks with you?
- Are you burned out on serving and need a reminder of your eternal reward?

Prayer: Thank you that my ways are not hidden from you, God. Thank you that you see my situation and care about me.
